Anahita Factory: A Revolution in Industrial Architecture

Shahram Shir's Design Melds Tradition with Modern Branding

Anahita Factory stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of traditional Iranian architecture and contemporary design, revolutionizing the aesthetic of industrial townships.

The Anahita Factory, a mixed-use building designed by Shahram Shir, transcends the conventional with its 2500 square meter structure. It is a beacon of innovation in an industrial town in Tehran, where architectural artistry has been long overlooked. Shir's design philosophy for the Anahita Factory was multi-layered, drawing inspiration from the brand's identity, Persian architectural elements, and the existing industrial context. The result is a cohesive and impactful design that challenges the status quo of industrial architecture.

What sets the Anahita Factory apart is its unique approach to integrating various functions within a single space. The building caters to a range of needs, from worker accommodation to management facilities, all distributed thoughtfully across three levels. The ground floor offers a rest area for laborers, while the first floor houses offices, and the second floor includes a management room, hotel, swimming pool, and additional accommodations. Central to the design is a 750 square meter courtyard, providing a lush green space for relaxation and interaction among all users.

The construction technology employed in the Anahita Factory was dictated by the pre-existing metal frame, which presented a significant challenge. Shir's innovative solution was to create a large central courtyard by removing a volume from the building's core. This semi-open space is complemented by the use of concrete throughout the structure, simplifying the construction process while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.

Shir's team, comprising of architects, interior designers, and environmental developers, worked meticulously to ensure that the Anahita Factory not only served its functional purpose but also stood as a symbol of architectural branding. The design's interaction with its users is particularly noteworthy, with a central courtyard acting as the nexus of activity and separate entrances for different spaces to maintain independence and privacy.

From its inception in June 2021 to its completion in August 2023, the Anahita Factory has been a project of transformation. It represents a significant shift in the perception of industrial architecture, proving that aesthetic value and brand identity can coexist with functionality. The design team's extensive research into the relationship between architectural art and brand equity has been instrumental in achieving this balance, ultimately leading to the project's recognition with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2024.

The Anahita Factory is a bold statement in the landscape of Tehran's industrial townships, challenging preconceived notions of industrial design and setting a new standard for architectural excellence. It is a project that not only meets the practical demands of its users but also elevates the human experience through thoughtful design and a commitment to aesthetic innovation.
